4816 army deserters return, 4630 apprehended

The Sri Lanka Army revealed that 4816 army deserters including 11 officers have surrendered during the given nine day grace period that ended as of yesterday (February 12). Army personnel who have not reported for work and are absent without leave were given this time period to resign from the Army in a lawful manner.


Meanwhile 4630 army deserters including 12 officers have been arrested by the army, which has commenced rounding up army deserters, Military spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawela said.
