Minister of Petroleum Industry, Susil Premajayantha refuted UNP claims that the government was attempting to sell the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) stating that the UNP government was responsible for selling one third of the company to the Indian Oil Company.

Following allegations made by UNP Galle District MP, Gayantha Karunathilleke claiming that the government was planning to sell the CPC to cover the losses incurred by the Hedging Agreement, the government has firmly stated that it maintains a policy to not sell any government institution but to re-acquire what state institutions have been sold to other parties, government media reported.
