Govt. to issue permits to import several rice varieties including Ponni Samba

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to issue permits to import rice varieties including Ponni Samba, as a measure to ease the shortage of Samba and Keeri Samba rice in the country.

Accordingly, permits will be issued to import up to 1,040 metric tons of rice per importer, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated.
