300kg of heroin worth over Rs. 6 billion found on seized fishing trawler off Beruwala

Over 300 kilograms of heroin have been found aboard the multi-day fishing trawler seized by the Sri Lanka Navy in seas off Beruwala, according to the Sri Lanka Navy.
Acting on foreign intelligence, the Navy seized more than 300 kilograms of heroin from the local multi-day fishing vessel during a deep-sea surveillance operation off Beruwala, the Commander of the Sri Lanka, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda stated.
The vessel was escorted to the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour early this morning (01), where a detailed inspection uncovered 298 packages containing the narcotic stocks.
The Navy Commander stated that the vessel is a Sri Lankan multi-day fishing craft.
Six suspects on board have also been taken into custody and handed over to authorities along with communication equipment used during the operation.
The total street value of the seized heroin is estimated at approximately Rs. 6 billion, according to the Navy.
