A 16-year-old boy, a resident of the Perathuweli area, has tragically died after drowning in a canal within the Kantale police division.

It has been reported that the deceased had appeared for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination earlier this year.

The incident occurred while he was bathing in the canal with three friends.

Following the accident, local residents and youth organized a search operation, ultimately recovering his body approximately 300 meters from the location where he had been bathing.

Kantale Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
