Sri Lanka lost their Group A match against Pakistan by 11 runs after Pakistan posted a first innings total of 277 for 7 off their allotted 50 overs. Younis Khan scored 72 runs while Misbah-ul-Haq top scored with 83 while Shahid Afridi was the pick of Pakistani bowlers, picking up four wickets for just 34 runs.

Sri Lanka began their innings brightly with a 75 run opening partnership where T.M. Dilshan scored 41. However, with the loss of quick wickets and an increasingly slow rate of scoring Sri Lankans were forced to force the issue. They could only manage one fifty in the innings where Chamara Silva scored a patient 57 runs while Captain Kumar Sangakkara scored 49.
