Train services on the Northern Line, which were disrupted following Cyclone Ditwah, resumed this morning (09), according to Sri Lanka Railways.

Accordingly, the Colombo-Kankesanthurai Intercity Train left the Mount Lavinia station at 5:15 a.m.

The train is scheduled to reach the Kankesanthurai station at 12:14 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Jaffna Night Mail Train will depart the Colombo Fort station at 8:00 p.m. while the Yal Devi Train is scheduled to resume daily service from tomorrow, the department said.

The Ditwah cyclone caused damage to 14 locations along the Northern Railway line. Temporary repairs allowed limited train operations under speed restrictions from December 24, 2025, but services were temporarily suspended again from January 19.

With the completion of permanent repairs at the 14 damaged sites, the Department of Railways confirmed that train services along the Northern Railway line will be fully functional from today.

The Department also announced that several additional trains have been added to the schedule for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.
