The official state ceremony for the traditional oil-anointing ritual of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year is scheduled to take place this morning (April 15) at the premises of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
In line with New Year customs and auspicious timings, it is considered customary to bathe after applying a mixture of neem leaves extract and oil, while wearing green-coloured attire, facing east, with neem (kohomba) leaves leaves placed on the head and kolan leaves placed beneath the feet.
The state ceremony for the oil-anointing ritual will be held at the Sri Maha Natha Devalaya premises within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
The event will be held under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of the Siam Nikaya, with the participation of a large number of devotees.
