The second school term for the year 2026 in all government and government-approved private Sinhala and Tamil schools commences today (20).

Meanwhile, the fourth stage of the first school term for Muslim schools also begins today, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education.

The second phase of the first school term concluded on April 10, and holidays were granted until April 19 in line with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Accordingly, the second school term, which begins today, will continue until July 24, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced that the distribution of the total stock of school uniform fabric received as a donation from the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the year 2026 has been completed.

A total of 11.484 million metres of fabric required for school uniforms for this year for students in government and government-assisted schools, as well as for student monks, nuns, and students in government-approved Pirivenas, was provided as a grant by China.

The Ministry further stated that the distribution of uniform materials for 4,418,404 students has now been successfully completed.
