UNP petition rejected by appeal court

UNP petition rejected by appeal court

March 4, 2011   11:28 am

A petition filed by the UNP seeking the rejection of nomination papers submitted by the UPFA for the Chilaw Pradeshiya Sabha has been rejected by the Court of Appeals today. The petition had been filed by UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.

The petition states that the UPFA in its nominations for the Chilaw Pradeshiya Sabha had included the name of an individual over 35 years-old under the category for the youth.

Therefore the United National Party had requested that their nomination papers be rejected.

However, an attorney representing the General Secretary of the UPFA, Susil Premajayantha expressed that this petition cannot proceed before a court of law and thus requested the court to reject the petition.

The Appeal Court, which accepted the initial objections, then ordered that the petition be rejected.
