The United National Party (UNP) says that it condemns the incident in which a female UPFA candidate for the Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha had been assaulted, allegedly by a UNP candidate.

Also if the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is attempting to highlight such incidents for their own political gains, as a party we refute such attempts in utter disgust, the UNP states in a release.

The party’s attention has been drawn towards this incident and a separate inquiry on the UNP candidate, who is alleged of the attack, will be carried out based on the concerning medical report and all the acceptable information, the issued statement reads.

The United National Party further expressed that it will hesitate to take disciplinary action against the candidate if he is found guilty of being involved in any illegal act.
