70,000 strong security on election day

The Police Election Secretariat says that it intends to use around 70,000 armed forces and police personnel for security measures on the day of the Local Government election.
Security on the election dates will be provided under several stages, said the Head of the Police Election Secretariat, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Gamini Navaratne
He revealed that in addition to the stationed security officers at polling stations and counting centers, mobile security vehicles, road blocks, armed police groups and anti-riot police units will also be kept on standby.
So far approximately 140 complaints regarding the forthcoming Local Government election have been received while 130 persons have been placed under arrest, the Police Election Secretariat stated.
Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne mentioned that, there are 14 election candidates amongst those arrested over pre-election incidents.
