A clash is reported to have occurred in the Iranawila area between two fractions of UNP and UPFA supporters. A group of UPFA supporters had initially crashed into an UNP public rally and had disrupted the event resulting in the conflict situation.

Afterward several United National Party (UNP) activists had entered a propaganda meeting held by the United People’s Freedom Alliance and seized a UPFA Puththalam District Organizer.

The individual had later been released while the firearm of the security officer was handed over to the police.
