Independent Elections Commission to be formed after remaining LG polls

The independent Elections Commission will be formed after the remaining Local Government polls are held, President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated during a meeting with media heads at Temple Trees today (March 25).
The amendment of the election system will also occur after the completion of the remaining LG polls, he added.
The President also pointed out that establishing the Colombo Metropolitan City Corporation will not affect the elections of the five Local Government bodies, which was combined to form the corporation.
The combined Local bodies include the Colombo Municipal Council, Dehiwela- Mt Lavinia Municipal Council, Sri-Jayawardenapura- Kotte Municipal Council, Kolonnawa Urban Council and the Kotikawatta- Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha.
