The Petroleum Industries Ministry has decided to supply heavy fuel to the Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya according to the manner in which the West Coast Company, a shareholder of the Yugadanavi plant, settles their arrears with the Petroleum Corporation.
Minister of Petroleum Industries, Susil Premajayantha in a release stated that he has informed CPC to provide the Yugadanavi Power Plant with fuel, containing low sulfur percentages, in contrast to the amount overdue that has been settled thus far.
The governing authority of the Power Plant has been notified to inform the CPC of the heavy fuel quantity required monthly and annually while fuel will be supplied only according to that requirement, the Minister states.
These actions were only taken in order to settle the losses suffered by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation due to providing fuel at concessionary prices and there is no conspiracy behind this as some may suggest, the statement further reads.
