Court issues enjoining order against SLBC

April 2, 2011   02:48 pm

The Colombo Commercial High Court issued an enjoining order preventing the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) from broadcasting live commentaries of the cricket World Cup final today (April 02).

The enjoining order was issued following a request made by Powerhouse (Pvt) Ltd on behalf of FM Derana, who was afforded the rights as the official radio broadcaster of the ICC World Cup 2011.

The Powerhouse Company pointed out to the Colombo Commercial High Court yesterday that only FM Derana has been granted the rights to broadcast the live cricket updates of the World Cup this year by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Taking that point into consideration the court issued the enjoining order against the SLBC.
