Decision was made 3 weeks before World Cup - Sanga

The decision to step down from the Sri Lanka Cricket Captaincy was made three weeks before the World Cup, Kumar Sangakkara told media this evening. He added that Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardena and chairman of selectors Aravinda De Silva knew about his decision.

 

Sangakkara added that personally he would be happy if the selectors seriously look at TM Dilshan to be his successor and also Angelo Mathews. I would still like to be apart of the team, he said. When questioned whether Sangakkara would play in the next World Cup he added that a it would depend on his fitness and form.
