According to the PAFFREL organization if elections are not held for the remainder of the Local Government bodies before May 30, a problematic situation may arise in regard to nomination lists.

Nominations had been called according to the electoral register of 2009, Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said; if the elections are held subsequent to May 30 then definitely electors from the 2010 register will have to use their votes.

Therefore a possibility exists that a legal issue may occur in this regard, the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections points out.

If the remaining LG polls are not held by May 30 the Parliament may have to implement a new set of laws, he further stated.
