Legal action against manufacturers of non-standardized CFL bulbs
April 27, 2011 04:30 pm
Strict legal action will be taken against traders, distributors, local manufacturers and those who sell or stock CFL bulbs which do not carry the Ministry of Power and Energy Certification label.
This is in accordance to a Gazette Notification on 26 July 2009 of 1611/10 which made it compulsory that all CFL bulbs carry the Ministry of Power and Energy Certification Label.
Accordingly under the instructions of Power and Energy Minister
Patali Champika Ranawaka the CEB, LECO and Renewable Energy Authority will take
legal action against all those involved in the manufacture and distribution of
non standard CFL bulbs which violate the Consumer Protection Act.
The Ministry further added that it requires the assistance
of the Public in taking legal action against such violators and any complaints
regarding the sale of non standard CFL bulbs can be reported via the hotline
1901.
The Ministry added that the Renewable Energy Authority has taken steps to conduct island wide awareness programmes and special raids regarding this matter.
