May 2, 2011   05:24 pm

The Supreme Court today (May 02) ended hearings on the petition filed challenging the proposed Employees’ Pension Benefit Fund bill targeted at private sector and migrant workers. The court announced that it would submit the decision regarding the legitimacy of the bill to the Speaker of Parliament today.

The petition charges that the bill, which has already been presented to Parliament by the government, contravenes the constitution of the country.

The petition was taken up before a three-member judge panel headed by Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, which permitted the bill to be implemented.
