Sri Lankan boxer Manju Wanniarachchi has announced his retirement from the sport, Wanniarachchi’s coach told Ada Derana.

Manju Dinesh Kumara Wanniarachchi had won the gold medal in the 56 kg Bantam weight category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games only to have it stripped from him on May 08 after following a positive test for anabolic steroids.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Court in Kuala Lumpur found Wanniarachchi guilty of taking performance enhancing drugs and awarded the medal to Wales’ Sean McGoldrick.
