The government, which has failed to resolve the wage dispute of university lecturers, has decided to provide salary increments to the directors and heads of corporations and statutory bodies, Tissa Attanayake claims.

This is because only government henchmen are occupying these posts, the UNP General Secretary accused speaking at a press briefing today (May 23).

Attanayake called upon the government to immediately withdraw the pension scheme, which he says is being brought forth without being discussed with the private sector workers, trade union representatives, opposition parties or the owners of private companies.

A large scale demonstration had been held at Katunayaka junction today against this pension plan which greatly deprives the private sector workers, the UNP Parliamentarian said “similarly, a nation wide protest movement will be launched in the near future.”
