Death toll due to weather conditions rises to six

The death toll due to heavy rains and flooding in many parts of the country has risen to six, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) revealed. It further stated that 1012 families and 3627 people had been affected by the heavy rains while 18 houses were completely destroyed.

 

Five people were killed following heavy floods and landslides in the Galigamuwa area in Kegalle while one person died after being struck by lightning in the Millaniya area in Kalutara.

 

Meanwhile, one person is missing after being swept away by the Ma Oya currents in the Naramwala area in Kurunegala.

 

The DMC stated that Kegalle was the worst affected by the flooding.
