Foreign currency worth Rs.7.1M found in airport toilet

Custom officials have discovered a large amount of foreign currency in the possession of a cleaning service employee at the Bandaranaike International Airport.


The foreign currency found hidden inside his shoes and in a nearby lavatory consisted of euros, yen, Australian dollars and various other currencies, an airport customs spokesman said.


The foreign currency, discovered at around 10pm yesterday (June 10), is reportedly worth over Rs. 7.1 million.


Airport customs officials further interrogating the worker, attached to a private cleaning service company.
