Ministerial inquiry into student allegedly assaulted by teacher

An inquiry will be conducted on a ministerial level regarding the alleged incident where a student of a leading Kandy school had been physically harmed by a teacher of the same school, said Wijesiri Herath, Provincial Director of Education.


He revealed that the investigation will commence on Monday (June 13).


The teacher, arrested under suspicion, was presented to the Kandy Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where he had been ordered released on two personal bails of Rs 25,000 each.


It has been reported that the Children & Women Bureau of the Kandy Police has also commenced a special investigation on the incident.


The assaulted 14-year-old student is presently receiving treatment at the Kandy General Hospital for a bone fracture, police stated.
