Steps have been taken to draw up a National policy on Private Transport in the country focusing on the next 25 years, Private Transport Services Minister, C.B. Ratnayake stated.

He explained that these measures had to be taken in order to improve on the inefficiency of the public transport sector while adding that the central government as well as provincial councils will extend their support and ideas in drawing up the policy.

Meanwhile, President of the Private Bus Owners Assiciation, Gemunu Wijeyratne stated that a national policy on private transport was an initiative started by the previous Transport Minister.

He also said that a national policy was needed for the entire transport system and not only the private transport sector adding that a national policy alone would not help mend the constitutional problems faced by the sector.
