Jaffna Commander assures ‘strict action’ if army involved

Steps have been taken to ensure the safety of all political parties in the Jaffna District, Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe said. He stated that no violent acts will be allowed to take place within Jaffna.


Speaking during a press briefing in Jaffna on Saturday following discussions with TNA MPs, he revealed that security forces and police have been assigned the task of providing security to the political parties.


Speaking in regard to the recent attack on a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) meeting Hathurusinghe said that the military police has commenced investigations into the incident while the civil police and the DIG are conducting a separate investigation. “So we are very serious about this incident” he expressed.


If the Army had any hand in the incident the strictest action will be taken against those found guilty,he affirmed.


“We will not allow these kinds of things to happen in the future.”


“We are committed for the betterment, the welfare and the security of the people of Jaffna.” the Major General reiterated.
