Manual and computerized elections results for LG polls

The Elections Commissioner has decided to release manual and computerized results of the forthcoming local government elections to the parties contested the election on July 23.

The new measure by the commissioner will begin with the forthcoming Local Government polls

The aim is to consolidate the veracity of the results. This decision has already been intimated to political parties and Independent Groups. Appeals were made to undertake recounts of certain electorates during the past elections. Some had accused that there had been faults in some results.

Taking this situation into consideration and in response to request by political party representatives, the Elections Secretariat said it had been agreed to provide manual and computerized results.

In the meantime the official poll cards for the elections scheduled to be held on the 23rd of this month had already been directed to the District Secretariats.

DIG Elections, Gamini Navaratne said that a special security programme will be in place in this respect. Mr. Navaratne also said that special security will be provided on the 12th of this month, when postal voting will take place, the Government Information Department said.
