Speaker leaves for India today

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa is scheduled to depart for India today (July 08) to participate in the 5th SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians Conference in New Delhi, Speaker’s Office confirmed.


The conference would be inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, while Speaker Indian Lok Sabha Meera Kumar would host the conference.


The basic purpose of the conference is to strengthen ties between South Asian countries and promote cooperation and collaboration between Parliamentarians of the countries.


A delegation is to accompany the Speaker to the conference being held from July 09 to 12.
