96 arrested for violating election laws

Police Election Secretariat says 96 persons have been arrested so far for violations of election laws. It has received approximately 70 complaints in connection to the election to be held on July 23 for 65 Local Government bodies.


Additionally 22 vehicles have also been taken into police custody for carrying out election propaganda in unlawful manner.


Head of the Police Election Secretariat, Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne stated that security has been tightened in all areas where polling will take place and every necessary action will be taken void of any party politics to hold a peaceful election.
