I am willing to accept any challenge given to me if it is the will of the majority of party members and the general public, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya stated.

Earlier today, Co-deputy Leader of the UNP Sajith Premadasa stated that Jayasuriya was willing to take the role of party leader in a special press conference held in Colombo.

MP Jayasuriya released a statement soon after stating that with the cooperation of the party supporters he was willing to do everything necessary to take the party forward.

He added in the statement that he has always maintained that he is willing to step down from any post if it was the wish of the majority of the party members or if it was for the good of the party.
