FR petitions filed by LTTE members rejected

August 7, 2011   10:54 am

The Supreme Court has rejected the fundamental rights petitions filed by three high ranking members of the LTTE, arrested by the CID while allegedly in Colombo to carryout terrorist attacks during the war.

The three suspects had filed the petitions claiming they are being unlawfully held in custody and therefore request that they be released.

However when the fundamental rights petitions were taken up the Attorney General had informed the Supreme Court that the suspects in question have been charged under the Terrorism Prevention Act.

The Supreme Court afterwards declared that the petitions be rejected.
