JVP condemns US violation of Lankan airspace

August 8, 2011   02:02 pm

The violation of the Sri Lankan air space by a US fighter jet is an infringement on the sovereignty of the country, the JVP said in a statement today. The party added that the government should explain the details behind the incident.

The JVP added that no nation has the right to enter another airspace without permission and that it is a violation of international laws. The JVP hereby lodge its strong protest against the US government, the statement claims.

The JVP further questioned whether there is a connection between this incident and the 2007 agreement signed between the Lankan Government and the US. The JVP alleged that the said agreement afforded the US rights to use Sri Lankan soil and airspace for military purposes.
