Five arrested over illegal buffalo transportation

Five persons including a woman arrested early today morning by the Kandana Police for the illegal transportation of water buffalo destined for Ja-Ela, Dandugama. Police stated that the suspects had used one lorry to transport 28 buffalo and as a result 12 had died on transit.

 

 

Initial investigations have revealed that the buffalo were being taken from the Hanbegamuwa area in Tanamalwila to Ja-Ela to be slaughtered for meat without a permit.

 

 

Suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Kanuwana Magistrate today.
