Forest fire rages in Walapane

A forest fire broke out today (August 11) in a forest area in Walapane, Nuwara-Eliya while the District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri stated that he was informed about the situation in the morning.

 

Kumarasiri said that although no estimate can be given to how large the affected area is, the fire has spread rapidly across the forest and the surrounding areas.

 

He added that the Wildlife Department as well as the Disaster Management Center has been informed of the fire while measures are being taken now to quell it.
