Tense situation in Kinniya, mob attacks Navy camp

A tense situation is reported from Kinniya after a violent mob attacked a navy camp last night after seeing an alleged “grease devil” roaming the area enter the camp. The mob had later attacked a police jeep that arrived at the scene early this morning injuring two policemen.

 

Residents claim that a suspicious looking individual had driving a car into the Navy camp premises situated in Paisal Nagar, Kinniya. Afterwards a large mob had surrounded the camp throwing stones and causing unrest. The Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya states that the Navy was forced to fire to control the mob, however denying that live bullets were used. Two civilians have been injured and admitted to the Trincomalee Hospital.



Twenty five persons have been taken into custody over the incident.

 

When Kinniya Police arrived at the scene the mob had attacked one of the jeeps injuring two officers. Security in the area has been beefed up to prevent any more agitations, Police said.
