Certain groups want the Navy camp in Kinniya removed and are acting accordingly, the Sri Lanka Navy accused. The violent actions of a mob near the Navy camp yesterday was one instance of that, according to the Navy Spokesman.

Individuals engaged in various illegal activities are in the forefront of this, Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya claimed.

A tense situation had been reported late last night after a violent mob attacked a navy camp, chasing an alleged “grease devil” who had been roaming the area.

The mob had also attacked a police jeep that arrived at the scene today (August 15) morning injuring two policemen.

Kinniya Police said that the situation has been brought under control.
