Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services companies (SLASSCOM) and the BCS The Chartered Institute for IT in Sri Lanka Section (BCSSL) entered into a MOU recently to recognize and encourage ICT entrepreneurs at the National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) to be held in October 2011. NBQSA has been the only National competition of its type in Sri Lanka that recognizes exceptional local ICT achievements.

Nominations from ICT related enterprises for the ICT Entrepreneur Award 2011 are now open from suitable entrepreneurs who have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial qualities in growing and developing their own businesses. In addition, to having a minimum of 2 years of entrepreneurial experience in leading an enterprise, he/she should own at least 20% of the company shares or have an endorsement from the Board of Directors on entrepreneurial contributions to grow the revenue and employment opportunities in the enterprise. Selected nominees would be recognized as ‘Preferred Entrepreneurs’ for SLASSCOM ‘Dream to Reality’ program, which is aimed at providing benefits to entrepreneurs that have the potential to build Sri Lanka’s next leading ICT companies.

‘NBQSA is a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations to benchmark their ICT products with the rest of the world. This also aims at providing an avenue for locally developed ICT products and services to gain international recognition and make them more competitive on an international platform. SLASSCOM is happy to tie up with BCS in awarding the ICT Entrepreneur 2011 award and is looking forward to receiving many nominations from ICT entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka’, said Sanath Fernando, Board Member and Head of the SLASSCOM Entrepreneurship Forum.

Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) has been working in the last few years to create awareness in IT related new trends and, employment opportunities to the next generation. The Sri Lankan IT and BPO industry is projected to grow by 26% in 2011 with export earnings estimated at US$ 390 million for 2010. All our endeavours are geared towards driving Sri Lanka to reach our national goal of becoming the #1 industry to lead Sri Lanka to the knowledge economy while achieving the target of US$1 billion in revenue and employment to over 100,000 by 2015. One of the key prerequisite for this growth is to encourage ICT related entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka.
