Police duties obstructed by politicians

The people’s faith in the police has deteriorated due to political pressure, says UNP MP Kabir Hashim. Civilians are taking the law into their own hands because politicians do not allow police officers to carry out the law, he accused.

Addressing a media briefing today (August 19), regarding the prevailing “grease devil” menace in the country and mobs attacking suspects, he declared that the government and politicians should take full responsibility for this.

The Parliamentarian pointed out that Village Civil Defence Committees should be established and security in villages should be strengthened through gathering civilians, religious leaders and the police.

“Can a government, which is unable to even accomplish such a minor task, be granted the country’s security?” he inquired.
