Sri Lanka’s major political parties have still not submitted nominations for the forthcoming Local Government election, according to several District Secretaries.

They stated that only independent groups and some minor parties have so far handed over nominations and put up election deposits.

The United National Party however says that it has almost neared completion of preparing nomination papers while the party’s nomination committee is scheduled to gather today and have a final discussion on the matter.

Compiling of the candidates list for the Colombo Municipal Council is also just about complete, Chairman of the UNP Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said.
