Man remanded for spreading “grease devil” rumors

A three-wheeler driver in the Modara area, charged with spreading false information regarding “grease devils,” has been ordered remanded in custody until August 22 by the Colombo Magistrate court.

The suspect, arrested and produced at court by the Modara Police, had allegedly frightened people by claiming that the governemtn was actually behind the “grease devil” menace.

Police informed court that the conversations and the false statements made by the individual have been recorded by Intelligence Unit officers.
