At a time when people’s cost of living (CoL) is sky high, the government is preparing to bring down 14 helicopters on loan, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake accused.

Speaking at a media briefing today (August 23) regarding the government purportedly ordering 14 Mi-171 helicopters from Rosoboronexport State Corporation under a Russian credit deal.

It has been 2 years since the war has ended, however the government is yet to reduce defense costs and provide relief to the masses, the UNP Parliamentarian stressed.

He mentioned that the Air Force Commander had claimed the helicopters will be used for transporting emergency goods, VIPs and for border security, “ However, as they are being acquired on loan, ultimately it is the people of the country who will have to pay the debt.” he pointed out.

Tissa Attanayake, bringing up the recent increase in gas prices and import taxes on potatoes and onions, also warned that prices of goods may increase even more in the future.
