Navy officer arrested after deserting post and stealing a weapon

A Naval Officer attached to the Gajaba Naval camp in Mannar was arrested by the Mannar Police after he deserted his post carrying along with him a T-56 weapon and 120 bullets.

 

The navy officer is currently in police custody while the Navy Headquarters stated that it was still unclear as to why the soldier abandoned his post and took the weapons along with him.

 

The headquarters added that a special investigation was being carried out into the incident by a team of Navy officers who have already been dispatched to Mannar.
