Ranil welcomes proposal to lift emergency

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe speaking in parliament a short while ago welcomed President Rajapaksa’s proposal to lift emergency regulations. He added that this was a good start to laying the foundation for a proper democracy in Sri Lanka.

 

He however added that lifting the emergency alone would not fully establish a democracy. Wickremasinghe stated that further laws have to be amended in future adding that the opposition would work with the government in future to solve issues within the country.
