August 26, 2011   01:57 pm

The upcoming election could be the final election where polythene is permitted to be used within the Western Province, Western Province Minister of Environment Udaya Gammanpila stated.

A bill, to ban the use of polythene in elections, has been submitted to Parliament to be debated, he pointed out.

Gammanpila stated that using any form of polythene for decorations and propaganda will be prohibited once the bill is passed in Parliament.

The Minister of Agriculture, Agrarian Services and Environment of the Western Province claimed that all political parties have expressed their support bill, differences aside.

After the bill is debated it will then be possible to pass it within Provincial Council, he said.
