Political parties are engaging in propaganda activities though violating election laws even right now, according to the Executive Director of PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi.
He says that engaging in unlawful propaganda activities even before preference numbers are issued could prove a serious problem in the lead up to the Local Government election and could pose a threat to election affairs.
The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections pleaded from the major political parties to engage in election propaganda in accordance with the election laws during the time period prior to the polls.
Speaking to Ada Derana, Mr.Hettiarachchi stressed the importance of providing guidance, on a national as well as a district level, to candidates to carryout propaganda activities with certain discipline “as least to avoid the frequent clashes between candidates of the same party.”
