Four Sri Lankan Tamils, who were deported to Chennai from Singapore, were held at the airport for possessing fake documents on Monday.

The police arrested Rajendran of Porur, Sasikaran of Mandapam refugee camp, Sriram of Gummidipoondi refugee camp and Sendhuran of KK Nagar, Tiruchy, who arrived on a flight from Singapore on Monday morning.

The four persons had gone to Singapore from Coimbatore in July with fake papers including an Indian passport, said police.

They had taken the help of a Singapore agent, who had promised to help find jobs abroad. “They had plans to fly to France via Singapore,” said a police official.

But the agent, who promised them jobs after taking `2.5 lakh, left them in a hotel room in Singapore and escaped. The Singapore police then arrested the four Lankan Tamils and they were imprisoned for a month. “The Singapore police then deported them back to Chennai where we arrested them,” added the airport police official.
