Following raids carried out by the Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Control Authority in the past several days the Ministry of Health has taken steps to file cases against 10 pharmacies for operating in violation of the Drug Regulatory Act.

A total of 25 private pharmacies in Orugodawatta, Wellampitiya, Dematagoda, Kolonnawa, Attidiya, Moratuwa and Panadura had been inspected out of which four were operating without valid licenses.

Four pharmacies issuing medicinal drugs without doctor prescriptions, a pharmacy storing drugs devoid of proper standards and a pharmacy which issued a different drug instead of the one prescribed by the doctor were identified, the Ministry of Heath stated.

It also revealed that similar inspections will be carried out across the island at private pharmacies in the near future.
