Minister Susil Premajayantha says the Singapore company, which purportedly supplied substandard petrol to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, has not informed so far that it would not pay any claims for damages.
A committee appointed to probe the controversial petrol issue recently concluded that substandard petrol had been imported to the country and recommended that the company which had supplied the petrol should pay damages.
Numerous vehicles had been damaged after using the aforementioned petrol which had been supplied by the Singapore unit of Dubai-based Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC).
However, certain media reported today (September 4) that ENOC had rejected accusations that it supplied substandard petrol to Sri Lanka and that they would not pay any claims for damages.
Minister of Petroleum Industries, Susil Premajayantha when inquired by Ada Derana regarding the matter said the CPC has not notified the company of the accusations in writing yet.
He pointed out that there are clear guidelines in international commercial law when acting during such issues and therefore the CPC would act according to those laws.
