EXCLUSIVE: Cabinet approves Action Plan for Human Rights

With the aim of protecting human rights within the country, the Cabinet has approved the Human Rights Action Plan prepared by Plantations Minister, Mahinda Samarasinghe.

 

Speaking to Ada Derana exclusively, Minister Samarasinghe stated that the plan was created on the basis of the recommendations made by the UN Human Rights Council.

 

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan delegation attending the Human Rights Council session scheduled for September 12 in Geneva left the country early this morning (September 8). Ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe, Nimal Siripala De Silva and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa left as part of the delegation.

 

Minister Samarasinghe told Ada Derana that time has been allocated at the sessions for Sri Lanka to make a special statement regarding the country and the newly approved human rights action plan.
